“Logic will take you from A to B, imagination will take you everywhere.” – Albert Einstein
INSPIRE TRUST believes, that a child can express greatly through art because their curiosity and imagination is unmediated by anybody else’s expectations or demands. It comes from within their inner life. Imagination integrates a child’s feelings, dreams and actions. This is how they celebrate creativity with the most amazing gift of childhood – ‘imagination’.
To express thoughts, feelings and dreams is one of the most important abilities in once life and art education is an integral part of the development of each human being.
The INSPIRE TRUST Team members have individually and collectively been conducting various art workshops through projects for children both privileged and underprivileged for the last 6 years till date at various locations in Goa. The feedback & insights have been overwhelming & inspiring. We sensed the urgent need to contribute & add value to a child’s life intellectually, emotionally & spiritually.
The need for Art awareness and education
After identifying the benefits, need & importance of art awareness and education for children, INSPIRE TRUST organized the FIRST INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY in Goa (Art For A Cause) to help raise funds for the same.
THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY (IARG)
Artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities exist to invite artists, academicians, curators, and all manner of creative people for a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. They provide a time of reflection, research, presentation and/or production. They also allow an individual to explore his/her practice within another community; meeting new people, using new materials, experiencing life in a new location. Art residencies emphasize the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural exchange and immersion into another culture.
IARG was the first curated International Artist Residency Programme in Goa.
15 Artists from around the world were invited for a 15-day Art Residency, from 14th to 30th March 2015, at Dudhsagar Spa Resort to exchange Art and ideas that will enhance the thought process of the local and visiting Artists though this shared forum. Artists invited to the workshop came from Hungary, Brazil, Japan, Syria, Germany, Poland, Iran, and from the home country India and come from various specialized fields. There were Sculptors, printmakers, Installation Artists, Live Art performers and others who are mainly Painters but are versatile enough and have shown through their work that Artists no more limit themselves to just one field.
All funds from the Artist Residency Art Exhibition of works will be used to fund the Residency expenses and to support art awareness, education & exhibitions for underprivileged/disadvantage kids through Art activities and workshops.
Art Activities and Workshops
The Lokvishwas Pratishthan School was the first organisation to participate in the FIRST INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY Art Workshop on 24th of March 2015 at Dudhsagar Resort, Mollem. The vocational group of 15 kids were invited for a 3hr session, conducted by the International Artists. Following the success of the workshop, INSPIRE TRUST and the Lokvishwas Pratishthan School have decided to continue the collaboration.
INSPIRE TRUST is further looking for different institutions in Goa to conduct Art Activities and workshops with.
The INSPIRE TRUST team will conduct weekly workshops guided by various artists. The children will be introduced and exposed to various forms of art expressions and craft using the learn-by-doing methodology, centred around colour and painting.
We encourage each child to explore their world of imagination with personalised guidance & support ensuring a memorable learning experience by keeping their interest alive.
Our objective is to inspire and nurture children to create artworks/paintings, through regular Art activities and workshops. Artworks created by the young artists as a collective, will be exhibited and travel to galleries & community spaces around Goa, inspiring and showcasing their talent. The exhibition will be titled COLOUR HERO’S – ‘Affordable Art For A Cause’ – that will be open to all. Art lovers, organisations (NGO’s), schools, colleges & corporates will be invited.
Children have the ability to inspire and make a difference in supporting and contributing to society.
The young artists (colour hero’s) will play the role of leading by example, the funds collected through the exhibition will go back to continue supporting art education and also sponsor other kids to join their centre or the Colour Hero’s Art Studio.
‘LIFE FULL OF COLOUR’
The INSPIRE TRUST aims to publish the first edition of an Art Manual on Art Education & Awareness titled, ‘LIFE FULL OF COLOUR’ after the 1st year of practice.
What will INSPIRE TRUST do
- Organize and facilitate the weekly workshops with the help of in-house staff (Two & half hours per session)
- Invite artists and volunteers to participate, share ideas and techniques
- Provide all materials necessary for workshops
- Propose this initiative to organisations to get regular material supplies
- The Inspire Trust Team will offer all services voluntarily
The focus: ‘Play of colour and surface’
During the first two or three months we will focus on creating spontaneous Art through painting, colour, forms, styles & techniques. We will introduce and focus on the play of colour and surface. These sessions will be interactive and fun, encouraging the child to express and discover the spontaneous self. From the first session onwards we will begin the process of collecting collective artworks.
The INSPIRE TRUST will also facilitate and introduce other activities as and when we have the resource volunteers available. The following initiatives can benefit & help as build-up exercises, for awareness and as supporting workshops to discover interest and talent.
- Theatre & Body Expressions
- Craft & Recycle Craft (Best out of waste)
- Dance & Movement
- Sound and Rhythm
- Environment based (Plants / Growing / Waste)
The introductory sessions are very important & aim to encourage children to bring their own ideas and interests as well as provide opportunities to experience a wide range of materials and allow all children to access different approaches to making art work.
The idea is to use tools to overcome the fear of the blank page, and to create greater understanding of the materials/surfaces and how to use them.
The next stage would be identifying the children who are interested & inclined towards art & paintings and work with them in different groups – depending on what kind of art they are interested.
